Competition Law Enforcement and Household Inequality in the United Kingdom

Abstract Using a comprehensive database of all the decisions made under European and U.K. competition laws over 15-year period to 2020, alongside households’ consumption market data, we estimate level distribution savings from enforcement across United Kingdom. We find that law generated greater proportional for lower- average-income households relative wealthiest households. Our estimations indicate average 2.5 percent annual household budget lowest-income households, 2.1 household, 1.8 highest-income household. While proportionally are observed in most years, some higher-income saved more. results bring light variables affect savings. Among them tool applied, sectors which action took place, body. further illustrate how public affects economic disparity could potentially be used more structured, transparent, systematic way address societal concerns about increasing inequality.
